Amazing mock-up of Windows desktop UI all Metroified

What we see here is a incredible effort to incorporate Microsoft's new 'Metro' design style into the destop version of Windows 8. Currently it looks like wWindos 8 will look pretty much the same as Win 7 under the hood which, like me, I'm sure many people are disappointed about.

Cue some guy called Sputnik over at The Verge forums, he's causing quite the stir in the design world at the moment after posting this mock-up on his take of the Win 8 desktop UI.

Quite frankly, it's absolutely stunning. Microsoft need to take note, or better still hire this guy ASAP. There's still time!

Take a look. Original post here.

How Many Slaves Work For You?

We've all heard of carbon footprints... but a slave footprint? What's all that about? Good thing there is an exceptionally well designed web site to explain.

http://slaveryfootprint.org

Grim subject matter aside for one moment, we can take a minute to enjoy the beauty and complexity of the design. From the parallax scrolling to the uniqiue visual style, there is much to be admired here.

It's engaging and ultimately thought provoking.

The Fisherman

The animation is an incredible piece of theatre, a dark psychological drama with an exquisite monologue performed by Irish actor Diarmuid De Faoite. Brennan’s CG animation fits the narrative perfectly, and his stylized design of the lead character captures the manic despair of the lonely, lower class fisherman.

The story is inspired by the Irish myth of “The Salmon of Knowledge”, in which a character gains “all of the world’s knowledge” by eating a special salmon.

Sumo Science a directing duo working for Aardman animation Has produce the worlds largest stop motion animation, Filmed solely on three Nokia N8 phones.

The animation has a great pacing to it and is a great achievement considering the scale of the project. Also if you get the chance check out the "making of".

Very inspiring stuff.

Google Swiffy

So I came across this new piece of tech from Google labs today. It's to help developers convert and output their Adobe flash content to HTML 5. Very useful for devices that don't support Flash....ehem "Apple".

What Google says.

"Swiffy converts Flash SWF files to HTML5, allowing you to reuse Flash content on devices without a Flash player (such as iPhones and iPads).

Swiffy currently supports a subset of SWF 8 and ActionScript 2.0, and the output works in all Webkit browsers such as Chrome and Mobile Safari. If possible, exporting your Flash animation as a SWF 5 file might give better results."
